Terms & Conditions of Trade

These Terms and Conditions of Trade are the terms on which Hawthorn Press Ltd provide books to you as a consumer via our website www.hawthornpress.com

Your access to and use of the website is governed by Hawthorn Press’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Use

1. INFORMATION ABOUT US

1.1 We are Hawthorn Press Ltd registered in the United Kingdom under registration number 4532725. Our registered address is Hawthorn House, 1 Lansdown Lane, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 1BJ, United Kingdom.

2. OUR CONTRACT

2.1 We sell you the book at the price on the website and deliver it right away.* We add a small postal charge to orders, except where stated otherwise (as part of a special offer, for example).

*Pre-ordered books will be shipped to you as soon as they are released.

3. PRICES AND DELIVERY 

3.1 The price of the books is as stated on the website and as confirmed to you as part of the order process. Prices shown are inclusive of UK Value Added Tax (VAT). Books are currently zero rated in the UK. For EU customers, VAT is added when we know where books are to be delivered or where the purchaser lives.

3.2 Books will be dispatched by Royal Mail. Larger orders may be sent by courier, generally DPD. Currently, orders are not tracked.

3.3 Prices shown on the website do not include delivery. Our delivery charges are as follows and will be confirmed to you during the order process:

  • UK – £3 for the first book, plus 50p for each additional book up to a maximum of £10.00.
  • Europe – Postage costs are based on the weight of your order and calculated in your shopping basket. EU postage costs are also subject to VAT.
  • Rest of world – Postage costs are based on the weight of your order and calculated in your shopping basket.

3.4 If you are ordering books for delivery outside of the UK, please note that your consignment may be subject to import duties and taxes, levied once the goods reach the country of destination. Any such charges must be paid by you the customer/importer of record.

3.5 We aim to dispatch the books to you as soon as possible after you place your order, normally within 2 working days. Please note that BookSource, who pack and ship the books for us, are closed over weekends and Bank Holidays.

3.6 The following give an estimation of delivery times from receipt of order:

  • UK – 2-3 working days
  • Europe – 7-14 working days
  • Rest of the world – 10-18 working days

3.7 As soon as the books are delivered to you, you are responsible for them. If a parcel is damaged, please notify us via email info@hawthornpress.com or by telephone (01453 757 040) as soon as possible.

4. PAYMENT

4.1 We accept credit and debit cards through our payment provider, Paypal. All transactions take place on a secure server.

4.2  You will be charged when you make your order. We will process payment for all the books in the order, including any pre ordered books. You may cancel the order of pre ordered books before the point of shipment by contacting us by email or telephone.

4.3 For your security, when using a credit/debit card, the billing name and address must match that of the credit/debit card used for payment. We reserve the right not to process an order that does not match these criteria.

5. RETURNS AND REFUNDS

5.1 Within 30 days of receipt of your order, you may return any book in its original condition for a full refund.

5.2 If the book is damaged or defective, or there has been a processing error (you have received the wrong book), please contact us right away by email info@hawthornpress.com or by telephone (01453 757 040) to arrange a return and replacement.

5.3 If you’ve changed your mind on your purchase and wish to return it, please email info@hawthornpress.com, quoting your order details.

5.4 Please note that Hawthorn Press cannot pay return postage costs unless there has been a processing error or the book is damaged or defective.

6. SPECIAL OFFERS, PROMOTIONS AND DISCOUNTS

6.1 Where you are responding to an offer or discount, a discount code may be required (applied during checkout) to amend the price on a qualifying order.

6.2 Where a discount or promotional code is offered against a specific item or group of items, you can only claim it against those particular items.

6.3 Discounts are generally offered on the order sub-total; postage costs are calculated before discounts are applied.

6.4 Generally, only one discount/promotional code will be allowed per order or per customer, per transaction, per day.

6.5 You can only use codes and discount vouchers on full-priced items and not in conjunction with other offers. Sale and discounted items are excluded.

8. ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS 

8.1 By using this website, you accept that communication with us will mainly be electronic. We will contact you by email or provide you with information by posting notices on this website. For contractual purposes, you consent to receive communications from us electronically (to the most recent email address you have provided to us) and you agree that all agreements, notices and other communications that we provide to you electronically satisfy any legal requirement that such communications be in writing.

9.1 We reserve the right to change or update these Terms and Conditions of Trade from time to time.

9.2 Please note that you are entering into an agreement with a UK company. These Terms and Conditions of Trade and any contracts based on them, are governed by the laws of the UK and any disputes arising out of them shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the British courts. However, nothing in these Terms and Conditions of Trade shall limit or exclude any statutory rights granted to you under local law (in particular consumer protection laws) which remain unaffected and in full force and effect.

Hawthorn Press does not consent to the use or downloading of any of the content on this website by any third party for the purpose of developing, training or operating artificial intelligence or other machine learning systems (“Artificial Intelligence Purposes”), unless authorised by us in writing (including by written electronic communication).
