Making Acorn Cup Whistles

cover of the Children's Forest

To celebrate #SeedWeek we are making acorn cup whistles.

Seeds are tiny cases of living treasure. Within each seed lies the spark of new life. A small acorn holds all the magic inside it to grow into a mighty oak.

A Samhain Treasure for your Magic Pouch – Acorn Cup Whistle

YOU WILL NEED:
An uncracked acorn cup

The top part of both thumbs placed on the acorn cup, leaving a small space between them.

TO MAKE:

  1. Choose an uncracked acorn cup, and place it upon the first and second fingers of both hands, with the acorn bowl facing you.
  2. Place the top part of both thumbs on the cup, leaving a small space between your thumbs – shaped like a narrow slice of pie.
  3. Place your lips so they cover the cup, and blow into the gap. This whistle takes practice but is sur- prisingly loud. The acorn cup can also be used to gather tree drops for medicine. (See Acorn Cup Dew Medicine, p 210)

This and other seed-based activities can be found in The Children’s Forest.
