Description

“It should be an additional welcome tool for teachers, home educators and for anyone trying to work with the temperaments therapeutically.”—Winter 2019 newsletter of the Anthroposophical Society in Great Britain.

Creative form drawing is a form of movement-based learning that children love, engaging them with head, heart and hand, way beyond ‘head learning’. Children develop attention, balance and coordination, hand-eye coordination, spatial orientation, observations skills, attention, confident movement, drawing skills and the foundation skills for handwriting.

The educator Rudolf Steiner (1865–1925) introduced the four temperaments into Waldorf primary school education to help teachers observe children and their developmental needs. He suggested that teachers use form drawing exercises to strengthen, balance and harmonise the temperaments of particular children. Angela Lord has developed over 500 colourful form drawing exercises for the temperaments, and invites teachers and children to develop their own forms.

Understanding the temperaments gives clues for meeting children’s learning needs. Children like to draw, and creative form drawing helps meet these needs.

This workbook covers the why, what and how of creative form drawing with the four temperaments. It offers specific form drawing exercises and lessons for children aged 6–12 years. It includes:

  • Colourful, dynamic and beautiful forms for drawing that live into the temperaments
  • Healing, harmonising, strengthening, transforming drawing exercises
  • How to identify the four temperaments with observations and characterisations of contrasting learning styes
  • Over 500 drawing exercises and examples to help design lessons.
