Warren’s interest in baking bread stemmed from his interest in making life-sized sculptures of animals and people. He settled on bread as an environmentally-friendly, cheap and fun medium to work with, and he has exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States. He now has over 20 years experience of baking bread with children and adults, building bread ovens and teaching bread workshops.
Warren Lee Cohen is the Director of Teacher Education at The Rudolf Steiner Center in Toronto, Canada and has been inspired by Steiner Waldorf education for over 20 years. He has taught in Steiner schools as well as been the trainer of teachers at Emerson College in the United Kingdom.

BREAD FELLOW
(for Warren Lee Cohen)
Wisdom is a word you like.
I never relished it,
but have admired how
(loping across the yard)
you knead the good earth
with knees and feet.
It is in this wise
that I’ve savoured you.
Even your homespun hat
seems a bowl preparing
a thoughtful yeast to rise.
Your sourdoughs and your ryes.
You’ve tasted good.
