Beatrys Lockie (1927-2023) was born in the Netherlands. She worked for many years as a kindergarten teacher and lectured widely on early childhood education. She was a passionate gardener all her life. She had an organic garden on the Scottish borders which she opened to the public every year for charity. In later years she lived in Somerset, in the south west of England.
