Bringing the Best Out in Boys

Communication Strategies for Teachers

Lucinda Neall

Based on the well-received and practical book of the same title, this video explores what boys think about school, what motivates and de-motivates them, and suggests communication strategies to engage them in learning.

These strategies take no extra teaching time, can easily be incorporated into lessons and will reduce time spent on discipline. The concepts apply to boys of all ages. They include;

  • recognising boys' particular characteristics and needs;
  • affirming and channeling boys' energy; providing boys with challenge and focus;
  • getting cooperation without nagging and shouting;
  • engaging boys with humour and playfulness;
  • how to encourage boys so that they can be their best.
